William H. Horton serves of counsel to Kohn & Associates in the areas of business litigation, product liability defense, computer law, and employment law. He represents a variety of clients in prosecuting or defending corporate or individual disputes resulting in litigation.
In product liability matters, Mr. Horton was chief Michigan counsel for National Gypsum Company in the defense of a massive class action and individual lawsuits seeking recompense for the expenses related to the removal of asbestos-containing building products from school and government buildings. During the course of these lawsuits, which lasted over seven years and involved nearly 300 plaintiffs and 4,000 buildings, the client was never found to be liable and was actually paid monies by some of the plaintiffs as sanctions and costs. Mr. Horton later represented and continues to represent The Flintkote Company in asbestos-related products litigation. He has also been involved in products litigation involving mechanical, electromechanical, and medical products.
Mr. Horton is the former chairperson of the Computer Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the editor of The Computer Lawyer, the publication of the Section. He has been involved in the licensure, protection, litigation and arbitration surrounding a number of software ventures. He is experienced in many aspects of computing, having been involved in software development prior to practicing law.
Mr. Horton is a 1980 graduate of the Detroit College of Law, where he was Managing Editor of the Law Review. He is a member of the Computer Law Section of the Michigan Bar and serves as an arbitrator and mediator for both private and public organizations.
